Page is displaying 404 Page Not Found error

An error page is one that tells your visitor when there is a problem accessing a page or a resource. There is a specific code for each type of problem.

When you request a web page, you’ll receive the following error message at the top of the Web browser:

The page cannot be found

The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

You’ll notice the following error message below:

Common causes for 404 error:

  • The requested file has been renamed.
  • The requested file has been moved to another location and/or deleted.
  • The requested file is temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, upgrades, or other unknown causes.
  • The requested file does not exist.
  • IIS 6.0: The appropriate Web service extension or MIME type is not enabled.
  • A virtual directory is mapped to the root of a drive on another server.

Adding an error page

  1. Log into cPanel.
  2. Navigate to Home >Advanced>Error Pages.

The Error Pages will be displayed.

3. Select the domain or subdomain you want to view from the Managing drop down list.

4. Click on the link page you wish to edit.

The selected page will be displayed in edit mode.

Note: You can create your own custom error pages. These pages will be displayed whenever your website visitor looks for a page that is really not there on your site.

5. Insert your own custom page code (in HTML or SHTML) and click Save.

The error page will be added.
